Our Story
In 2001, Trina’s life changed in two profound ways. She left a career in foster care social work to attend law school, frustrated by gaps in the system. Just before starting that journey, she learned that her boyfriend of a year and a half (now husband) had a daughter — Layne — whom he had not yet met.
Layne’s arrival in Trina’s life was transformative. Together, Layne’s parents and stepparents navigated the challenges of co-parenting, learning firsthand how hard — and how vital — it is to stay focused on what matters most: the child.
Those experiences inspired Trina to look beyond individual cases. In 2008, she founded The Layne Project™ to help families and communities find healthier paths through transition.
What began as a direct service organization is now a training and consulting firm strengthening the people and systems that serve families.
